After joining Sony, the author has been engaged in the research and development of battery materials using surplus biomass as raw material. During this process, they developed Triporous, a novel porous carbon material with a unique microstructure derived from rice husks. Currently, the author is promoting open innovation to solve various social issues, including the PFAS problem, by leveraging the excellent adsorption properties of Triporous.
Sony has developed Triporous, a porous carbon material with unique microstructure, using rice husks as the raw material. Rice husks are excess biomass, with approximately 2 million tons produced annually in Japan and over 100 million tons worldwide, posing environmental challenges due to its disposal.
This presentation will report on the basic properties of Triporous in comparison with conventional activated carbon adsorbents, and its effectiveness in removing high concentrations of PFAS from environmental water and soil incorporating the latest test results.
