【Abstract】

Since nanoparticles express novel functions not found in bulk materials, they are developed for various application fields such as electronics, catalysis, and energy. However, aggregation of nanoparticles in organic solvents during mass production is a major problem that hinders their practical use. However, it is known that the dispersibility of organically modified nanoparticles cannot be explained only by the solubility of the organic modification chains and solvent, and there is a need to clarify the interaction between the nanoparticle surface and organic solvent at atomic level. Therefore, we aimed to clarify the interaction between various organic solvents and organically modified nanoparticles by utilizing coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations and then to elucidate the dispersion and aggregation mechanisms of organically modified nanoparticles in organic solvents and to design optimal organic solvents for improving the dispersion of organically modified nanoparticles.

【Abstract】

Nanofluids, which are colloidal suspensions of nanoparticles, are expected to be applied to various fields. The properties of nanofluids and their applied products depend on not only nanoparticles and solvents themselves but also the structures of nanoparticles in solvents. Since the structures of nanoparticles are affected by the processes such as fluid shear and solvent evaporation as well as the affinity between nanoparticles and solvents, it is important to understand the correlation between the affinity, the processes and the structures of nanoparticles to obtain products with the desired properties. We have performed numerical simulations for the dispersion and aggregation behavior of surface-modified nanoparticles under shear flow and the structure formation of the nanoparticles during solvent evaporation, and clarified the effect of the processes on the structure formation of nanoparticles. In my talk, the above-mentioned works will be introduced.
