【Abstract】

Nanocarbon materials such as fullerenes and carbon nanotubes are industrially manufactured by incomplete combustion of organic solvents and chemical vapor deposition methods using inexpensive carbon monoxide and alcohol as raw materials. Nanocarbon materials are normally more stable than organic semiconductors and show high mobility for hole and electron transport. By making the best use of these nanocarbon materials and reducing the use of inorganic materials including metal electrodes as much as possible, we are aiming to create the original more organic "all-carbon solar cells". How can we design and synthesize functionalized nanocarbon materials and construct the devices to achieve this? Carbon has no restrictions as an element and is lightweight. I will introduce our research aimed at creating new-type organic solar cells that actively utilize nanocarbon materials that do not belong to the current solar cell category.

【Abstract】

Two-dimensional (2D) nanocarbons, represented by graphene, have excellent physical properties (lightweight and high strength, electrical and thermal conductivity, etc.), and have been actively studied and developed as next-generation materials for about 15 years. Practical applications of 2D nanocarbons have been widely proposed in the last five years in various fields. Currently, the balance among mass productivity, cost, and physical/chemical properties is becoming more important. In this presentation, the mass production of 2D nanocarbons from graphite will be introduced from an academic point of view. Along with a kilogram scale production of 2D carbons, functionalization and applications of 2D carbons will be presented.
