Scalable liquid encapsulation (SLE) technology for pharmaceutical and food applications
SLE Enterprises provides hardware and technology to enable the encapsulation of arbitrary liquid systems at scale, suitable for pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic formulations. Encapsulation is often a limiting step in the process of manufacturing complex liquid formulations. We address this market need by enabling rapid process development and scale-up.

Polymer-perovskite composite that leads to highly stable solar cells with enhanced performance
A commodity polymer (cost ~ $1/lb) is used to develop stable organolead halide perovskite-based photovoltaic cells. The composition with polymer requires no extra processing steps and only mg quantity of the polymer is needed for 100 cm2 cells. The composite has nanoscale layered structure and is not only stable under typical operating conditions for solar cells but also has higher efficiency.

Scope Photonics Inc.: Electrically tunable lenses for smartphone cameras, autonomous vehicles, manufacturing vision, and more
Scope’s electrically tunable lenses use precisely shaped fields to reorient liquid crystals, which dynamically tune the optical wavefront and change how the lens behaves. The correct combination of lenses allows for truly lossless zoom. Scope has built proof-of-concept lenses supported by a custom simulation pipeline, and is now finalizing its MVP as it patents and develops its IP.

Flexible micro-LED displays through heterogeneous integration of thin-film transistors and III-V optoelectronic devices
The research by the Waterloo group combines micro-light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with thin-film transistor (TFT) devices to provide new pathways for high-brightness and high-resolution flexible displays. The group has demonstrated the feasibility of combining Si-based TFT circuitry on flexible platforms with micro-LED media for next-generation displays.
