Advancing the State of AM Adoption: Impacts of Transformative Technologies and Standards Harmonization
10:20-10:50
AMT (The Association for Manufacturing Technology)
VP of Technology and CTO
Shinbara Tim
Tim Shinbara is Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for AMT-The Association For Manufacturing Technology. He is responsible for strategic planning, activities related to research and development, standards, and international collaboration regarding manufacturing technology trends and needs.Mr. Shinbara is a Board Officer of the MTConnect Institute which develops the MTConnect Standard supporting data interoperability and standards harmonization as well as Chair of ASTM F42.05 Materials and Processes sub-committee. AMT is a founding member of America Makes (Manufacturing USA Institute for additive manufacturing) and he served multiple terms on their Executive Committee; including supporting the development of their initial technical roadmap. Tim began his AM career at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems with Direct Part Manufacturing (DPM) being a major focus within his manufacturing technology development portfolio for aerospace and space applications.
This presentation suggests two areas recently emerging that better enable-maybe are required for-AM to gain momentum toward industrial adoption, namely: "transformative" technologies and standards harmonization. Each play different but critical roles to advance the state of industrial adoption. Firstly, as the digital manufacturing ecosystem increases, it affords more opportunities to integrate more readily available transformative technologies into the additive manufacturing ecosystem.

The Role of Startups in the Additive Manufacturing Industry
11:20-11:50
AM Ventures
Regional Director Asia
Lee Sangmin "Simon"
Sangmin "Simon" Lee joined AM Ventures in January 2019 as Regional Director Asia. He acts as AM Ventures’ representative and technology scout in Asia Pacific.
Simon has always been fascinated by entrepreneurship, the creation and pursuit of visions and the identification of business challenges and their solutions. In the early stage of his career, he gained experience in the Startup Scene as a founder of the company Hi-Globe in the Korean energy sector. Besides, he was a founding member of 3Developer, an internal startup of Mirae International, the starting point of his career in the Additive Manufacturing industry.
Before joining AM Ventures, Simon acted as Sales Manager for EOS GmbH in Korea where he gained substantial professional experience and built up a large network in the Additive Manufacturing industry.
Simon holds a degree in Japanese (Major) and Business Administration (Minor) from Hankuk University for Foreign Studies, Korea. Simon enjoys traveling the world and loves the nature. Being based in Busan, he swims in the ocean every morning before starting the day.
The ever-increasing number and size of dedicated investments in 3D printing solutions show that key strategists have realized the various advantages of additive manufacturing inherits. And it is also true that the market needs more technology solutions to address the challenges (e.g. cost, productivity, reliability, automation, post-processing, etc.) and to maximize the benefit of AM (e.g. design freedom, easy customization, digital production, etc.) to drive quicker technology adoption for industrial-scale production.Startups have contributed a lot to the success of the industry and will play a critical role in the future leveraging their natural speed, creativity and flexibility. Today, the AM Ventures ecosystem consists of AM-related hardware, software, material and application ventures. Well-known investments range from software (3Yourmind), hardware (Sintratec, DyeMansion) and material companies (Elementum 3D) to application startups such as Vectoflow or Conflux Technology.
