【Abstract】

Conventional zinc oxide is known by significantly reducing the viscosity of formulations when added into O/W formulations using anionic thickeners such as carbomer. On the other hand, since O/W formulations require high transparency, it has long been a need to blend highly transparent micro zinc oxide, but there are technical difficulties to achieve. To solve this problem, we have developed a new Micro Zinc Oxide "ZEC-1" that can be used in combination with carbomer. "ZEC-1" is able to significantly reduce the negative effect of zinc oxide on carbomer. This is achieved through improving the raw material design from both the synthesis technology of zinc oxide which is the base material, and the water repellent treatment technology. The O/W formulation combined with "ZEC-1" and carbomer shows high stability over time. Hence, it can maintain a fresh texture, and is possible to achieve both high transparency and UV shielding ability.
