Kotaro Sakamoto, Ph.D. worked at a pharmaceutical company on drug discovery from 2007-2017. He has joined Ichimaru Pharcos Co. Ltd. in 2017 and has been leading various projects as the first Senior Principal Scientist (2018-2022) and Manager (2022-), including development of novel cosmetic ingredients. He launched Adeplump at CITE Japan (2021), which is the innovative skin plumper as adipose-tissue-enhancer for exotic skin beauty. Based on the technique and knowledge cultivated through drug discovery research, he aims to contribute to world people's beauty and health through the development of innovative cosmetic ingredients with reliable effects. He has 35 original scientific papers, 34 domestic and international conference presentations, and 7 patent applications.

【Abstract】

The global beauty trend is shifting from "skin whitening" that depends on the skin's natural color to "skin brightening" that is genderless and borderless. Beautiful and bright skin consists such of high transparency and less dullness. Lipofuscin (aggregates of oxidized lipids and denatured proteins), that accumulates in cells with age, reduces skin transparency by blocking light transmission and causes skin dullness. We focused on proteasome, the intracellular purification system innate to the skin itself, and discovered JuniperBright which dramatically increased proteasome activity within 2 hours and significantly suppressed accumulation of lipofuscin in human epidermal keratinocytes. In human clinical study, JuniperBright increased the amount of internally reflected light in the cheek area.
